About the Presenter: Top of page

Preeti Pathela is the senior epidemiologist at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Sexually Transmitted Disease Control. She has been conducting STD program evaluation and research studies for 12 years, with special interests in correctional health, sexual health issues among men who have sex with men, and the relationship between sexual behavior and sexual identity. Preeti received her doctoral degree in Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her MPH from Emory University.

At the completion of this educational session, learners will:
  • Appreciate the risk of HIV infection among men diagnosed with rectal gonorrhea and chlamydia in STI clinics, and factors associated with HIV acquisition.
  • Appreciate the risk of HIV infection among men diagnosed with early syphilis infections in NYC, and factors associated with HIV acquisition.
  • Understand the components of a comprehensive bio-behavioral approach to HIV prevention.
