Dr Giovanni Guaraldi is an Associate Professor of Infectious disease at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy). In 2000 he started a liver and kidney transplant program for people with HIV infection at the multi-visceral transplant center at Policlinico of Modena. Since 2002 he runs a Metabolic Clinic for HIV infection. This tertiary level referral center offers a multidisciplinary team consultant service where more than 4500 people have been followed up. He is a panel member of the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) guidelines on prevention and management of HIV associated co-morbidities. Dr. Guaraldi has published widely (over 450 papers) on various clinical aspects of HIV and COVID-19 treatment and care.

At the completion of this educational session, participants will:
1. Be introduced to the principles of HIV geriatric medicine and understand that healthy aging is the ultimate goal of HIV management.
2 .Learn how to assess biological age with frailty and recognize the changing clinical pattern of people aging with HIV versus people who acquired HIV at an older age.
3. Appreciate, in the context of COVID pandemic, different models of HIV care in older adults, in PLWH experiencing frailty transition and in elderly frail individuals.
4. Understand antiretroviral therapy management within the framework of polypharmacy deprescribing strategies.

This CME activity has approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for February 23, 2022, as a live activity.  This activity will also be available as an enduring activity from February 24, 2022, through February 22, 2025.

The target audience is all physicians, NPs and PAs involved or interested in HIV education.
