Jane R. Zucker has served as the Assistant Commissioner for the Bureau of Immunization at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene since August 2005. She is responsible for policy development, program management and integrity of the NYC Immunization Program. Under her leadership, vaccination coverage for routinely recommended vaccines, including influenza, have continued to increase among young children, adolescents and adults, while racial disparities have decreased. Further, she has established a strong Adult Immunization program that works to increase vaccination coverage of all recommended vaccines through implementation of evidenced-based strategies.
At the completion of this educational session, learners will:
- Appreciate the epidemiology of vaccine-preventable infections in NYC, and the role that immunizations play in reducing their impact.
- Know the current recommendations for vaccines in at-risk adolescent and adult HIV-positive patients and PrEP candidates, including recent updates to meningococcal, hepatitis A, HPV and pneumococcal vaccine recommendations.
- Describe evidence-based strategies for increasing practice-level vaccination coverage rates.
