Dr. Mehta is currently the Director of Transplant Infectious Diseases for the NYU Langone Transplant Institute and serves as the site investigator for the multicenter HOPE-in-Action clinical study- a study evaluating the feasibility and safety of HIV+ to HIV+ organ transplants. She is also the Clinical Director for the NYU Langone Transplant Institute, a role in which she helps lead the clinical operations and growth of the organ transplant programs. She is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and currently co-chair of the HIV Working Group of the Infectious Diseases Community of Practice of the American Society of Transplantation.
At the completion of this educational session, learners will:
1. Understand the need for transplantation among people living with HIV in the United States.
2. Be aware of the current organ transplantation options for patients living with HIV
3. Learn about clinical study results to date evaluating outcomes of HIV-positive organ use for HIV-positive recipients
4. Recognize the need for greater awareness around HIV organ donation for PLWHA
